Yellow Wagtails

Yellow Wagtails

The buttercup plumage of the Yellow Wagtail will brighten up any spring day. These birds usually migrate high along the coastline but the sight of a herd of cattle peppering a pasture below tends to draw them like a magnet as they know there will be insects to be found amongst the cows and cowpats. On sunny days they may stop for barely a few minutes but during poor weather large numbers can gather around the herds. The wagtails may remain for several days, but as soon as they sense an improvement in the weather they are quick to recommence their migration – Lady Anne’s Drive, Holkham, 25th April 2008.
